Gilbert has officially launched its new excavator-mounted hydraulic drop hammer, designed to work seamlessly as a duo with the Gilbert Side Grip vibratory pile driver. Using the same cab controls, contractors can easily switch between the two attachments – taking advantage of the Side Grip to start driving piles and then using the hammer to finish driving, especially in harder ground conditions.
At the end of November 2025, as temperatures dropped and conditions became cold, snowy and wet, Quebec-based Construction TECH Inc. put the new Gilbert hydraulic hammer to the test on a project in Otter Lake, Que. Construction TECH had pre-installed the sheet piles using the Gilbert Side Grip pile driver and then used the hammer to complete the installation in very challenging conditions.
The project involved the reconstruction of a bridge and required implementing measures to stabilize and protect the adjacent lakeside banks. Jean-Marc Lupien, foreman at Construction TECH, was highly supportive of the new product. “I am impressed by how the hammer performed in these difficult conditions. And I am very pleased to work with Catherine and the service team at Gilbert – they have been very supportive over the years,” said Lupien.
At CONEXPO 2026, Gilbert will be showcasing the new double action excavator-mounted hydraulic hammer, delivering an impressive 55 to 60 hits per minute.
