The annual Movember Construction Challenge is a time to dig into men’s health awareness while competing for fundraising glory against names big and small across the entire construction sector. From suppliers and trades to builders of highways, skyscrapers and homes – all are welcome to take part.

Why we’re taking action

Men’s health is in crisis and with 85 per cent of workers in the construction industry identifying as men, it’s time to invest in the industry’s most valuable tool – its workforce.

The statists show that:

  • Eighty-three per cent of workers have experienced some form of moderate to severe mental health issue.
  • Construction workers are five times as likely to die by suicide than by physical injuries from the job.
  • One in eight Canadian men will have prostate cancer.
  • Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in men aged 15 to 39.

2024 Construction Challenge summary

In 2024, more than 100 companies, big and small, from across the construction industry rallied together to change the face of men’s health, raising nearly $1 million. Ledcor claimed the Construction Challenge title in 2024. While they took top spot, it was a tight race all month long with Gillam Group, PCL Construction, Jermyn Lumber and Onni Group of Companies keeping the leaderboard hot. The top five teams alone raised more than $320,000, proving just how mighty the Mo community in construction can be.

“The biggest challenge we need to overcome is this mentality that we need to ‘tough it out.’ My least favourite phrase right now is ‘man up.’ We need to talk about our problems, discuss our feelings and get things checked out when they don’t feel right. Every conversation we have about our health could save someone’s life,” said Rob Reid, co-captain of the Ledcor Movember team.
