Products added to ICC-ES report ESR-2794

ICC-ES has published the revised ESR-2794 building code evaluation report which now includes non-galvanized Chance SS5 and SS175 helical pile products, including repair brackets and new construction caps. The full report is available on the Chance website.

Hubbell Power Systems, Inc. maintains an ICC Evaluation Service report ESR-2794 for the U.S. and for those jurisdictions who have adopted the International Building Code. The report also contains supplements for the International Residential Code and the Cities of Chicago and Los Angeles.

This demonstrates that Chance products have been independently evaluated by a third-party administrator to ensure they meet building code requirements which has always been a high priority. With more ICC-ES certification reports than any other helical pile brand, you can design confidently with Chance, The Certified Helical Pile.

Chance introduces new universal adapter for tieback applications

The new Universal Adapter is engineered to reduce costs and improve safety in tieback and seawall applications by connecting a square shaft helical anchor to any 1-inch diameter threaded bar. Available in three configurations:

  • C1502189 – SS5/SS150 series; 70 kip tension; drivable
  • C1502241 – SS175 series; 100 kip tension; non-drivable
  • C1502242 – SS175 series; 100 kip tension; drivable

By countersinking with a drive tool, tieback wall anchors can be installed in front of the wall, reducing safety concerns, meeting OSHA requirements, and increasing installation speed. To learn more about how the drivable adapters work, watch this video, which applies to the C1502189 and the new C1502242 products.

GroutForce pile breaks capacity record for Chance products

Chance recently released GroutForce screw displacement pile (GDP). It is being installed and tested across North America in various soil types. At a recent installation in Vancouver, the RS6625.280 GDP configuration was installed to 48-feet with approximately 65,000 ft-lb (88128 N-m) of installation torque. Grout consumption was 105 per cent of theoretical based on preliminary calculations.

When the grout had cured, the pile was tested to 676 kip (3007 kN) with one inch deflection in compression. The load test was stopped prior to failing the pile due to the tension reactions pulling on the load frame. This is the highest-known load test result of a Chance product.

GroutForce is a patented foundation solution for loose to dense sand or soft to firm clay. Since the grout column increases diameter and frictional bond, the shaft length may be reduced by 50 per cent or more versus other pile types while maintaining its high ultimate compression strength.
