Italian contractor R.C.M. Costruzioni srl is relying on three Liebherr crawler cranes to construct challenging slurry walls for a new mega dry dock in Genoa, one of Italy’s most significant maritime infrastructure projects.
The project requires constructing multiple slurry walls through heavily reinforced harbour foundations, where dense steel reinforcement demands high-performance equipment. R.C.M. is using the new Liebherr LSC 8-20 slurry wall cutter – introduced at Bauma – to excavate to depths of 10 metres, while two Liebherr duty cycle crawler cranes equipped with slurry wall grabs are completing excavation work to depths of 34 metres
Site manager Leoncio Fortunato said the company selected Liebherr for its equipment performance, reliability and technical support. The modular cutter and grab systems can be adapted to changing site conditions while maintaining the vertical accuracy required for deep slurry wall construction.
Work on the dry dock began in 2023 and is expected to be completed in 2026.
